PRODUCT CARE

KYODAI products are made from a variety of materials, some which are very durable and others which need to be handled with care.
A care card is included with each product explaining how best to look after your product so it stays looking great for as long as possible. If you lose the card please refer back to this page.

When your KYODAI product is not being used it is best to be stored in your branded dust bag.

Moiré

Probably one of the most beautiful fabric ever made; products made from Moire need to be looked after well. In order to create this beautiful water mark pattern, the fabric goes under a hot damp metal cylinder which presses it on another rubber cylinder in an uneven motion, creating an ever-different moire design. Exposing this fabric to water will ruin this effect pretty quickly. So never clean your bag with water!

This is a luxury fabric and needs extra care to keep it looking great. If you would like to make it weatherproof please use a fabric protector spray. It is recommended to do this every 6 months but I would use it more if you wear your bag often. I personally use Scotchgard ‘water shield spray’ which will help repel water and dirt. Always read the instructions, and test an area of the bag or strap first. Your bag will first appear wet and then will go back to looking the same, it takes around 4 hours to completely dry in between coats.

Avoid stains. Especially if you have a lighter colour bag, the best protection for your bag is to keep it away from food and drink.

These products are gentle dry clean only. Our bags are hand made not only from Moire but also buckram, canvas, cotton interlining, brass and organic cotton so make sure you talk to your dry cleaner and they know how to care for a luxury bag. If they don’t, take it to a specialist. Please show the symbols below to your dry cleaner.

Remember that dry cleaning means they will clean your product with chemicals and heat so this should not be done regularly or it could start to damage your bag!

Leather

We source our dead stock leathers from other workshops, factories, and suppliers getting rid of old stock, and can therefore be a mix of chrome tanned and vegetable tanned. Often our straps and card holders are made from vegetable tanned from our merchant in East London. But follow these general care tips to keep your leather product looking great!

Don’t over fill your bags. To maintain its original silhouette always avoid overfilling your bag as the leather will stretch.

If you wear your items often, take the time each week to wipe away dust and spots with a soft cloth or brush.

If you accidentally stain your product, blot away water or moisture as soon as possible. Cleaning with water will only make it worse. If the spot or stain remains, clean the area with a light soap and warm water.

Do keep leather supple with a good polish every so often, even using a specialised leather conditioner every 3-6 months. But please test any conditioners, cleaners, polishes or wax in a hidden spot beforehand.

Avoid scratches by minimising contact with heavily embellished clothes, jewellery or sharp surface. Please note, if your bag is made from vegetable tanned leather is will be prone to marks and scratches, however, small scratches can be taken care of with a little polishing.

Store your leather product away from direct sunlight as it can cause fading and store away from artificial sources of heat, e.g. radiators can cause leather to dry and crack. Please store in your branded dust bag provided.

Waxed Cotton

This traditionally manufactured water resistant fabric is incredibly durable and perfect for the winter months. However even this fabric will need to be cleaned once in a while!

If you get dirt on your bag, simply wait for it to dry and using a soft cloth brush it off.

When your waxed cotton/canvas product is in need of a good clean, use cold water and a mild soap and gently rub it on with a sponge before rinsing. Afterward, let it air dry.

Never wash your bag in the washing machine and never take it to a dry cleaners.

Reproofing will maintain the waterproof qualities and extend your bag’s life, you can use a spray-on waterproofer which is very quick and easy!
